Week One

Topic: Trust God

You Are Capable/You Got This!

My family recently relocated from another state. I made the decision, prior to this move, to homeschool while also transitioning from one professional area to another. This was supposed to be my time to teach my daughter one on one and also have the freedom and time to work diligently on something I was passionate about. I had much of the time planned in my head. I worked tirelessly to unpack boxes and establish our new home.

I realized I was pregnant a few weeks after moving.  The new house was not completely set up but I was put on an extended timeout. My plans were curtailed for the foreseeable future.

True to my body, I was extremely ill. I cannot begin to describe my struggles. And the let down I felt when I was physically unable to complete many activities of daily living in the absence of assistance. I felt helpless, like an invalid, I felt defeated. I worried not only about the baby (eventually I learned I was carrying two babies), but also about my daughter and the education I was supposed to be providing for her. Would she learn anything at home? Would she be at grade level? Should I just give up and send her back to school? Would this Mama be good enough? I struggled physically and also emotionally. In those moments, day after day, month after month I leaned closer and closer to Jesus.

You may be experiencing an unexpected or difficult pregnancy. You may be embarking on homeschooling for the first time. You may be wondering if you have the wherewithal to effectively educate your child(ren) at home.

Our stories probably differ. You may not be dealing with any one of these scenarios. At the core however, the vast majority of us will face worry, doubt, anxiety, and/or fear related to educating our child(ren) at home. There really is no magic pill you can take to alleviate those feelings. Sometimes it’s helpful for us to feel those feelings. Those feelings are helpful to remind us of the importance of walking this journey in relationship. Relationship with God and relationship in a supportive community.

Guess what Mama? It’s okay if you don’t have this thing all worked out. God will meet you in the midst of your “mess”. I promise you, you are not the only one who is trying to figure things out. Trust Him to do the work. And yes, you were and still are the very best person for the job.
